Nutrition for Life - Kelaniya (Gampaha district)
Nutrition for Life
- Awareness Project on the Importance of Nutritional Meals in Childhood -
The Nutritional for Life concept is implemented as an introductory pilot concept for school pupils.
Most of the pupils attend school without their breakfast and usually, there is some group of students who do not bring snacks or meal packets for the school interval time at 10:30 am. This has been considerably negatively affected by the low concentration in education, low educational progress, Malnutrition conditions, short temper, and many other side issues within the school community.
Learning for Life-S.R.C. started a pilot project at WP/KE/Kelani College to support identified 50 pupils with morning meal packs in 2015.
This project was initiated with funding support by two private individuals (Ms. Nomi & Ms. Therese) in Sweden join hands with SLBV in 2015. Gradually the number of pupils included in this project increased and SLBV is financially supported every year.
We provide Nutritional Meal packs for identified pupils mainly from the Primary Section (grade 1-5) of Kelani College. We maintain scientific standards and tools to identify, monitor, and evaluate the nutritional conditions and progress of nutritional improvement of pupils with support from the Public Health Inspector (PHI) and Medical Officer of Health (MOH).
Since 2022, considering the crisis in the country, under this project at Kelani College we provide 140 nutritious meal packs for pupils from grade 1-13 each and every school day .
